Getting to Watson Lake
Flight + shuttle
During the high season, it’s possible and often cheaper to come to Watson Lake by public transportation.
Air North flies out of major airports across Canada, directly to Whitehorse (through Yellowknife for Toronto & Ottawa).
There is a shuttle running every Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays between Whitehorse and Watson Lake. The shuttle leaves Watson Lake at 7am and Whitehorse at 4pm, the trip is roughly 4.5h. For more information, please consult this page.
If scheduled in advance, Northern Rockies Air can give you a ride between your hotel and the float base for a small fee.
Driving
There are 2 main highways coming up to Watson Lake, both very scenic:
The legendary Alaska Highway (Hwy 97) from Dawson Creek, through Fort Saint John, Fort Nelson, Muncho Lake. Make sure to stop by at the Liard River Hot Springs for a relaxing dip!
The Stewart-Cassiar Highway (Hwy 37) from Kitiwanga, through Dease Lake.
Getting to Muncho Lake
July / August only
Driving the Alaska Highway
In July / August, we offer flights out of Muncho lake in BC.
Our secondary base is only accessible by road, driving up the Alaska Highway from Fort St John. This scenic drive is already an experience on its own. Besides the breath-taking views, you are likely to come across bison, bear, possibly sheep, caribou and other wildlife.
To meet the airplane, pull off the highway where Google Maps shows “Muncho Lake RV park”. The access road is strictly limited to our scheduled guests, please park there and do not block any access. The yellow gate opens to a very private residence who graciously allows us access to serve a few resident hunters each year. Please be respectful of the residents at all times!
If you’re lost, here below the GPS coordinates where the airplane will be parked:
